    This research work was carried out with the aim of strengthening the competence to read different types of texts through the Eclectic Method. The sample consisted of 25 students in the third grade of primary school in an educational institution located in the district of Paucarpata, Arequipa region. The methodology used was action research and a qualitative approach. Three instruments were used for data collection: the teacher interview, the ACL (Assessment of Reading Comprehension) diagnostic test and the field diary, thus developing a triangulation of the instruments. Through the application of the learning activities, the pronunciation and understanding of words was strengthened, they also managed to understand with less difficulty the different texts they read, considering the before, during and after reading. In this way, they improved their skills in obtaining information, inferring and reflecting on it. This showed progress in terms of inferential and critical level. It was also demonstrated that through the four stages of the Eclectic Method (comprehension, imitation, elaboration and production) the vocalisation of different types of syllables can be mastered, and the ability to read different texts easily and quickly.
