Resumen
The purpose of this research work is to improve the development of the competence to solve quantity problems, through the resolution of arithmetic problems of verbal statements (PAEV). Whose type of research is qualitative with an action research design, being applied to a sample of 17 students from the third grade of the primary level. Using the checklist as instruments that allowed us to clearly verify achievements and difficulties in terms of the skills and attitudes of the students, another instrument was the question guide that measured the impact of the application of the action plan, likewise we used the field diary systematizing true information, and in this way analyze, interpret and reflect on the difficulty that students have when solving mathematical problems. In conclusion, there was an improvement in the resolution of mathematical problems, since the students were able to understand the problem through paraphrasing and identify the main data of a problem through the underlining technique, which allowed them to transform them into numerical expressions. , as well as generating and applying various strategies for an adequate resolution that lead to the application of the four basic operations of mathematics, however the verification procedures were not used properly.
